Why it is worth fixing rather than replacing

What is the difference between a cooktop, a hob and a gas stove?
In everyday use the terms overlap. A gas stove usually means a freestanding unit placed on the platform; a hob is built into the platform; a cooktop can mean either, but generally describes a slim glass or steel top. Will servicing actually reduce my gas bill?

Wiping the surface and washing the removable burner caps is worth doing regularly. Clearing the jets and re-tuning the air shutter needs the burner assembly opened up and a leak test afterwards, which is where a proper service earns its cost.
